Three college students move into an old house, where they stumble upon a repeated phrase written down – “Don’t think it, don’t say it” – and just underneath it, the name “The Bye Bye Man.” Soon, they begin to experience nightmarish scenarios, as the Bye Bye Man begins to come for them.
Look, The Bye Bye Man is a horror film that’s being released in January. Expectations aren’t necessarily set for this to be a new horror classic. But The Bye Bye Man isn’t even remotely scary. It’s unintentionally hilarious, with a largely amateur cast and a plot that’s mind-numbingly dull. If the film’s a success at all, it’ll be due to the Friday the 13th release date, which may be the smartest decision made in regards to this movie by a long stretch.
