When 13-year-old Morris (Markees Christmas) is uprooted to Germany by his father, Curtis (Craig Robinson), he has a hard time adjusting to his new surroundings. That is, until he meets an older girl named Katrin (Lina Keller). She may not be interested in him the way he is in her, but she is interested in some way – and Morris is in for a lot of heartache. While young fish-out-of-water stories aren’t anything new, Morris from America manages to feel fresh thanks to the particulars of this story. Christmas gives a strong performance that goes to some surprisingly deep places, while Robinson does a surprisingly strong job as a single father who’s funny, but not a joke. Morris from America is a film loaded with charm, humor and heart. It’s worth checking out.
